How to get to Badaling Great Wall from Beijing downtown
Badaling is one of the most popular Great Wall sections among tourists. The local government has made great effort to develop the Badaling transportation net. Now there are a couple of ways to get to Badaling Great Wall from Beijing downtown.
• Option 1: Self-driving
If you start from Beijing downtown, you should steer into the Badaling Expressway at the Qinghe junction, turn right at the No.21 exit of Badaling Expressway to drive into the scenic area. It is about 1 hour and 30 minutes driving.
• Option 2: By Train
It is quite convenient to take trains to get to Badaling from Beijing downtown. The whole train journey takes about one hour and 20 minutes to arrive at Badaling Great wall. Visitors can take S2 trains from Beijing North Railway Station directly to Badaling Railway Station, and then you need to take about 20-minute walk to Badaling Great Wall. Badaling is the only great wall section which tourists can directly reach by trains. There are a total of 12 trains from Beijing North Railway Station to Badaling Great Wall and 12 trains from Badaling back to Beijing downtown every day. The tickets of the trains are easy to buy. You just need to get to the ticket office in the main building of Beijing North Railway Station.

Remark: During travel peak days, the trains are filled up relatively fast. As long as the train has full passengers, it will depart immediately. In addition, the carriages of these trains are free-seated and unnumbered, just like a public bus. • Option 3: By Tourist Buses
Tourists can also take tourists buses No. 877, 919 and 880 to get to Badaling Great Wall from Beijing downtown. Among them, Bus No. 877 is the best choice, which is a non-stop bus from Deshengmen to Badaling. Deshengmen Bus Station is located on the north square of Deshengmen Arrow Tower lying on the northern second ring road. The closest subway station to Deshengmen Bus Station is Jishuitan Station (take subway line 2, Exit A), which is about 450 meters away. Subway Line 2, Bus No.5, 27, 305, 315, 380, 409, 625, 44(Outer Ring), 55, 83, 206 (Night Line), 909 can reach Deshengmen.
Remark: After you get off at the front hill of Badaling, you still have to take a 10-minute walk to the tickets office.
Transportation inside Badaling Scenic Area
Badaling Scenic Area provides many humanized facilities. If you do not like to spend too much time and effort on climbing the Great Wall, you could take the cable car up to Badaling Great Wall, especially when you take the seniors or kids with you who do not have so much energy to climb up the wall.
►Taking a cable car is more comfortable than taking the pulley, for it is fixed on a cableway and runs more stable. The cable car station is located at the back hill, where is the terminal station of Bus No. 919 and 880. Each cable car could accommodate 5 people for each time.
►Taking the pulley can have more fun than taking the cable car, but it is not suitable for the seniors. The pulley runs from the parking lot at the front hill where is the bus station of the Bus No. 877.
