Evening Bell at Nanping Hill

Located on the south side ofWest Lake, Evening Bell at Nanping Hill is one of top ten views of the west lake with the longest history. It is a mixture of cultural and natural views. It refers to the evening bells in Jingci Temple at Nanping Hill in Hangzhou. Due to the caves at Nanping Hill, when the sun is down and the bell rings, the sound of the bell will echoes in the valley for a long time. This is why this place is so famous.

Two mainly parts of Evening Bell Ringing at the Nanping Hill
The Scene of Evening Bell Ringing at the Nanping Hill is mainly consisted of two parts: Nanping Hill Scenic Area and Jingci Temple. The two portions are specially and vividly characterized of its beautiful of natural scene and religion culture. 

•Jingci Temple was originally built in 954, so it has a history of more than 1000 years. It is the stupa of Master Rujing, who was said to be the great master and founder of Caodong Brand of Buddhism in Japan. There are also a small number of Japanese Buddhists come here for pilgrimage each year. 

•Nanping Hill was also called Buddha’s Hill. It is less than 100 meters high but extends as long as over 1000 meters. The main peak of Nanping Hill is Huiri Peak, which is thickly and densely covered by green trees. It is characterized by the odd-shaped stones and the green woods. The trees on the hill are mostly pine trees. This hill provides different scenes according to different weather. In sunny days, the green woods at the hill grow much more enchanting. When it rains, the hill, partly covered with clouds and fog, offers a different beauty.

Jingci Temple in New Year Eve
In recent years, when the New Year comes, foreign guests, overseas Chinese and native residents in Hangzhou gather at the bell towel in Jingci Temple to strike the huge bell for New Year blessings. The bell sounds means ring out the Old Year and ringing in the New Year. They pray for the happiness, stability, unity, auspiciousness and good luck for the next year when people strike the bell. This show the magic and new present of culture injected in this old spot.
