No one in Lujia village is surnamed Lu, the village has more than 300 people, all of whom are Yang people. At the end of the Ming Dynasty, a family named Ouyang in Luling Diaoyuan Village, Ji'an Prefecture, Jiangxi Province, moved south from their home and changed their surname Ouyang to Yang on the way. The Yang family relocated to the west side of the Taohua River in the 25th year of Kangxi (1687) and lived in a place called Heyedi, now called Lujia Village, where they lived by raising ducks, grinding tofu, and sprouting beans.
The clear water of the Taohua River is an excellent source for making beancurd. They make beancurd, tofu, bean sprouts and other soy products, which are well known. These soy products were also transported to Guilin for sale. Hence, Lujia Village got the reputation of "Tofu Village".
In March 2010, Xiufeng District government firmly seized the historic opportunity of “two reforms and one integration” in Guilin City, carried out the entire village overhaul and reconstruction of 65 village houses, and implemented the "renovation of the whole village style" project. After careful construction in recent years, a unique village with 98 Hui style buildings with white walls and blue tiles integrated into the houses of northern Guangxi has stood out.
After the completion of the new village, all households will make catering and mainly operate farm dishes. Lujia Village has become an area where farmhouses are concentrated. Villagers in Lujia Village run a variety of restaurants, and all kinds of cuisines are all the rage in Guilin City. Lujia Village has become a leisurely place for Guilin's neighbors.
