Baiheliang Underwater Museum is located by the Yangtze River in Fuling District, Chongqing. It is first underwater museum in the world. The White Crane Ridge Inscription Underwater Museum is named because there were white cranes stopping at this ridge. It preserves the Baiheliang Stone Carvings, which are ancient hydrological inscriptions and fish carvings dating back over 1,200 years. These inscriptions recorded water levels during droughts and were used for flood predictions and agricultural planning.
The White Crane Ridge Inscription Underwater Museum is called the Pearl of the Three Gorges. The White Crane Ridge Inscription Preservation Project is ranked primary in the worldwide-known Three Gorges cultural relics preservation.Since The Resolution on the Construction of the Three Gorges Hydraulic Project on the Yangtze River was passed by the NPC in 1992, several plans had been discussed, affirmed and abandoned before the “unstressed container" scheme was finally adopted and implemented. It is a pioneering event in the collaboration of engineering an cultural relics preservation, which is the most complicated among the Three Gorges Dam projects, involving the highest technology, the most branches knowledge and academicians of China. Through all the participants' firm adherence to the goal, full-hearted collaboration, assiduous work and persistent innovation, The White Crane Inscription Underwater Museum was finally completed, which is the first underwater museum of ancient site in the world.
No.1 ancient hydrometric station: Baiheliang inscription records the changes of the low water level of the Yangtze River for more than 1,200 years since the Tang Dynasty. There are 108 hydrological inscriptions and 18 stone fish marks, which are consistent with the principle of "draft zero" of modern hydrological stations and are known as "the first ancient hydrological station in the world"
Rare underwater forest of stone tablets: There are more than 100 inscriptions at Baiheliang, including the authentic works of famous calligrapher Huang Tingjian. Visiting the underwater inscriptions at Baiheliang, you can experience the works of Literature, calligraphy and stone carving art.
Unique underwater experience: To visit the underwater inscriptions, you should take the 91-meter elevator to the 40-meter Yangtze River and see the inscriptions through the transparent corridor.
Site of 816 Project is located in Baitao Street, Fuling District, Chongqing, which is 20 kilometers from Fuling District and 80 kilometers from Chongqing. It is the largest and best-preserved underground nuclear facility site in China during the Cold War. It used to be a top secret military project in China, with the code name 816, and now it has become an open scenic area. In 1966, 816 Project was started to be built as a secret military project. And this project cost 17 years and over 60,000 persons participated in the work. In 1984, due to the adjustment of national strategy, the project was stopped.
