Gongtan Ancient Town is located by the Wujiang River. First built in Tang Dynasty, Gongtan Ancient Town has a history of over 1,700 years, which is known as the Pearl on the Wujiang Galley. Gongtan Ancient Town used to be an important wharf of salt merchants and cargo collecting and distributing centre in Wujiang River Basin. In the past, merchants gathered here and it was very prosperous at that time. Gongtan Ancient Town is the settlement of minorities like Tujia people and Miao people, which preserves traditional customs of the minorities. The architectures of the Gongtan Ancient Town are mainly stilt houses, which is built on the mountain in picturesque disorder, showing the unique charm of Chongqing mountain city landform.

Gongtan Ancient Street: Gongtan Ancient Street is about 1.5 kilometers long alongside the Wujiang River, with well-preserved stilt houses and stores on the both sides. Walking on the stone street, you can see the ancient lanes and wooden-structural houses.

To get to Wujiang Galley, you can take high-speed train from Chongqing to Pengshui Railway Station, then you can take a taxi to the Wujiang Galley. It takes about 3-4 hours to get to Wujiang Galley from Chongqing.
Taking private car. To get to Wujiang Galley, you can also take private car from Chongqing, which takes about 3-4 hours. It will be more expensive than taking the high-speed train.
