Possibly being the most famous restaurant with a history of several centuries, dating back to the Ming Dynasty, De Yue Lou is the place to go to sample Suzhou local cuisine.
Specialties of the restaurant include De Yue spring chicken, squirrel-shaped mandarin fish and ham sliced in honey sauce. Prices are very reasonable (though there are still extremely expensive meals on offer as well). The waiters speak limited English but the English-language menu does the job and the interior is classier than at most Chinese restaurants.
