Combining with Chongqing People Hall, the People Square is the architectural symbol of Chongqing. In fact, there are five magnificent squares: the People Square in front of the People Hall, the Liberation Monument Shopping Square, Chaotianmen Square, the Green Art Square and the Jialing Square. Chongqing citizens in particular, are well- known for their hospitality.
Huguang Guild Hall in Chongqing is re-opened for the public as a museum for visitors to explore the past Chongqing. With an ancient architectural style, Huguang Guild Hall was built in 1759 under the regime of Emperor Qinglong in the Qing Dynasty. In the history, this temple was first erected by the local businessmen and it was repaired and extended three times with the basic style without many changes.
The museum is the former residence of General Joseph W. Stilwell, who was chief commander of US forces in the China-Burma-India Theatre during World War II. In the past years, the museum has received more than 100 thousand visitors including the former Secretary of Department of Defense and former Secretary of State Mr. Kissinger.
Lies on the western side of Chongqing, Eling Park stands on Mt. Eling. In Qing Dynasty, a famous calligrapher who was a friend of the garden owner felt the topography of this mountain for its narrow and steep shape resembling a nape of a goose. He wrote down a piece of calligraphy and gave it to the owner. The owner immediately carved it to a stone tablet. This is how the park got its name.
Situated opposite the Chongqing People Hall, Chongqing Three Gorges Museum is not only the largest monographic museum in China, but also a public undertaking for the preservation, education, scientific research in respect of cultural relics and the natural environment of Chongqing and the Three Gorges area.
