Post Time: Jan 08 2014 By Sophie Huang

Once a neighbour was from Yangzhou, he always referred so many stories about Yangzhou. While the most impressive one will be Yangzhou Geyuan Garden - one of the top 4 Chinese classic style garden. It is the largest-scale and the most well-preserve slat merchant dwelling house in Yangzhou. In 1988, Geyuan Garden was listed as a national key cultural relics protection unit.

The south gate of Geyuan Garden is located in the middle part of Yangzhou Dongguan Street. During Jiaqing Emperor period Qing Dynasty 1818, this garden was built by Huang Zhijun, the head leader of slat merchant chamber of commerce in Huainan and Huaibei cities.

Geyuan Garden is a historic attraction with high art valuable. I just have been to Geyuan Garden for 2 - 3 times, and in this page, I would like to introduce you the four seasons of Geyuan Garden in Yangzhou.

On the Dongguan Street in Yangzhou, you can find various stores which sell handicrafts . And this picture shows the middle part of Dongguan Street after a renovation project.

The service industry in Yangzhou is well-known in the world. To summary the service industry, locals use a word for that - three knives, separately cutting knife, nail care knife, and kitchen knife. Barbers in Yangzhou are good at useing cutting knife to design hair style. Nail care is something like a way for foot massage. And chef in Yangzhou are good at chopping skill as well as food carving skills.

Geyuan Garden is a traditional Chinese class-style private garden, and now it is 4A scenic area. When entering the garden, the first thing we will see is a moon-shape gate. On the gate, we can see the Chinese characters “个园”. The name Geyuan (个园) was title according to the shape of bamboo.

Stone Folding Art aims to express “Sightseeing in Spring garden, appreciating in Summer garden, climbing in Autumn garden, dwelling in Winter garden”.

From the gate of Spring garden and the ornamental perforated window, we can have a glimpse of the garden scenery. When entering into the door and turn to the west direction, there was a bamboo forest which shows what is a spring garden.

Summer garden is located in the southwest side of the attraction. Mainly decorated by Taihu Lake stone, the special character of Taihu Lake stone make Summer garden as a cool cave which bring crystal feeling here.

Ancient cypress on the hill brings a cool feeling. On the foot of the hill, there is a pool that go through the garden. And there is a bridge which can lead us into the cool cave. Even in the heat summer, when you enter into the cave you will immediately feel calm down.

I prefer the Autumn scenery in this site. It is said the design of autumn garden is from Shi Tao, the famous painter in Qing Dynasty. Decorated by Huangshan Mountain stones. It is larger than the other three gardens, reputed as the most beautiful garden of garden of southern Yangtze River delta.

Winter garden is located under the southern wall. Because it ledding to the wall all year around, so there is rare sunshine here. From a distance to appreciate, it looks like the snows on the hill.
