It was my first time to
Dali, our touring bus stop at the Regent Hotel; this is a five-star hotel, looked big manner from outside. Its Chinese name is Feng Hua Xue Yue (Wind, Flower, Snow and Moon) which has a mean as “affair”! At first, we just could not understand why it has such a name.

In my mind, Wind, Flower, Snow, Moon refers to love or licentious life. But later, after I appreciated the beauty of Dali, I began to understand the special mean of Wind, Flower, Snow and Moon.
Wuhua Building
Firstly, Wind, Flower, Snow and Moon are the Dali’s four types landscapes refer to: the wind in Xiaguan, the flower in Shangguan, the snow on
Mt. Cangshan and the moonshine on
Erhai Lake.
Street of Dali
Xiaguan is a pass between mountains. It is the main wind source. The wind period is so long and the wind is so strong that are rarely seen at other place in the world.
Shangguan is wind grassland with flower blanked on the land. People call the beautiful flower here “Shangguan Flower”
Foreigner Street
The magnificent Cangshan Mountain extends across the territory of Dali, with snow capped tops which looks like in silver makeup, so people coalled it “Cangshan Mountain Snow”
The Eastern Gate of the ancient city, or Erhai Gate
Secondly, Wind, Flower, Snow and Moon also refer to the hat of girls of Bai minority. The tassels of the hat is the wind of Xiaguan, the flower decoration on the hat is Shangguan Flower, and the white top refers to Cangshan Snow, and the moon-shape of the hat refers to the moon above Erhai.

Currently he is "Dali museum".
The name of Dali is originated from that of a local regime in history called Kingdom Dali, meaning a state of great order. Many of the architectures of the city were built of marble from the ore nearby, and that is why it is also called a city of Dali Stone (marble). Both Chinese writing and pronunciation of 'great order' and 'marble' are the same. Marble buildings, marble streets, marble wall foundations and marble wells make the city so bright and limpid as if it is a tranquil fairyland. Each family loves door carving and wall-decoration; every household has a flower garden. While it is freezing season in the north, hundreds of flowers are in blossom here. Among them, camellia, azaleas and orchids are the most fascinating and enchanting ones.
