It was indeed a very pleasant trip in China organized by Lily on TCT’s behalf! If I have to do another part of China I will definitely contact Lily again.
Everything went smoothly but as you say nothing is always perfect and here are the some points which could help you in the future. Bear in mind that Lily suggested always good hotels but sometimes I asked her to cut on prices since we had to take 2 rooms so she gave us alternatives. So, it is entirely my fault regarding some hotels.
Beijing: Hotel Hejingfu - rooms great, clean, well situated near Hutongs/Temples etc. but the Breakfast a bit too Chinese for my taste but you could have eggs etc. They speak hardly any English so I would not recommend for foreigners rather the Park Plaza Hotel near Wangfujing or else.
Guide Daniel was outstanding! To recommend! Very caring for my 80 years old mother, staying with her, helping her etc.
Pingyao: Yide Hotel - a must! so authentic even if the shower is next to toilet but it is an old house.
Xian: Hotel Atour - very nice hotel and amenities.
Our guide Tony was very nice and caring
Guilin: Very nice hotel and well located, very good breakfast. It was a pleasure to have Sharon as a guide, so kind to my mother and caring.
Yangshoo: Awful hotel but chosen by me so it was my fault but it was only for 1 night. The bathrooms and beds are good but the environment and the breakfast awful. NEVER put foreigners there. The Impression Sanji Lu show was the best show I have ever seen since long time!
Shanghai: Hotel great as well as location - no regrets.
Our guide Mac didn’t have a guide « attitude ». Maybe he was the last one and we were spoiled by the others but we didn’t really « hooked » with him. Although his accent was a bit difficult to understand but his knowledge was good.
Suzhou: Garden hotel 5* was just great and well located.
Otherwise, all the guides/drivers were there on-time picking us up from airports/train stations etc.
