Gulangyu Island(Xiamen)


Sunlight Rock, the highest peak on the Gulangyu Island, is the symbol of Xiamen. The holes in the southwestern reefs hit by the waves will make sounds like beating the drum, hence, this area got its name "Gulang Islet".

Here, visitors can enjoy the winding coastal lines, natural and gentle seaside bathing grounds with the fine sands as well as the oddly shaped reefs. The whole islet provides a clean, tidy and tranquil environment. Furthermore, a lot of buildings on the islet with both the Chinese and foreign architectural styles have been well-preserved. Hence, Gulangyu Island is regarded as the gallery of International architecture.

Hakka Tulou in Nanjing (Xiamen)

Tulou is a unique and mysterious Hakka architecture with a thick earth wall enclosure found only in the mountainous areas in southwestern Fujian province bordering Guangdong in Southern China. They are generally enclosed buildings, mostly square or circular in configuration, with a very thick earth wall which is up to 6 feet thick and wooden skeletons, from three to five stories high, housing up to 80 families.


What is amazing about these earth buildings is the fact that in spite of the earth wall, some of them are more than 700 years old, surviving through centuries of natural elements, including earth quakes, yet still standing solid.

Hakka Tulou in Nanjing are precious presentation of the art of traditional Chinese architecture and earth-working civilization which originated from the ancient clan society, and can be found at the ancient sites like Banpo in Xian. Besides, Tulou in Nanjing is a material model on the traditional blood-relation oriented ideological culture of Chinese civilization.

South Putuo Temple(Xiamen)

South Putuo Temple is a well known temple in Fujian, even in China. The temple backs on to a group of exquisite peaks and is adjacent to Xiamen University. The architectural complex with the features of the Buddhist temple looked dignified, implying the meaning of the boundlessness of Buddha Dharma.


This temple has endless worshippers as well as pilgrims all the year around. The statue of Goddess of Mercy with 1,000 hands was built with the superb craftsmanship, and the Sutra House contains a variety of Buddhist relics.

A lot of inscriptions by celebrities have been well-preserved round this temple, and a Chinese character 'Buddha' was inscribed on a cliff behind the temple, nearly five meters high and over three meters wide. Behind the temple is Wulao Peak. Standing on the peak, you can overlook the mountains and sea in a distance.

Xiamen University(Xiamen)

This famous university embraces some scenic spots, like Lotus Lake and Lover Valley Reservoir, with a tranquil and romantic atmosphere. The old buildings in Xiamen University show the unique features, and being a typical model of the combination of the Chinese and the West styles.

In each June, when phoenix flowers are in full bloom, making the campus becomes a red sea. While graduates will leave the university, and at this time the whole campus is full of an atmosphere of sadness and beauty.

Mt. Wuyishan(Fuzhou)

With a pleasant climate, fascinating scenery, abundant products, time-honored history as well as abundant tourism resources, Mt. Wuyishan is a well-liked tea, grain and timber production center in China.

Fuzhou West Lake Park(Fuzhou)

China has a few West Lakes; among them, Fuzhou West Lake is regarded as one of the most well-liked besides Hanzhou West Lake. The Fuzhou West Lake Park is the most well-preserved and intact classical garden in Fuzhou, covering an area of 42.51 hectares; among which, 30.3 hectares are water area, which is also regarded to be "a bright pearl of Fuzhou gardens".

Three Lanes and Seven Alley(Fuzhou)

Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, or Sanfang Qixiang, is a well-preserved architectural complex of the Ming and Qing Dynasty, covering a total area of 40 hectares with 268 ancient houses.

It is a platform for showing the history and culture of Fuzhou City, commemorating Fuzhou's ancient celebrities, as well as displaying traditional business and folk art. It enjoys a reputation of "the Museum of the buildings of the Ming and Qing Dynasty".

This interesting spot looks like a shaped chessboard. Having a bird's eye view of the city, the shape of the lanes and alleys comply with natural features as well as together with other winding narrow paths.
