Maqu County is located in the southwest of Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, at the junction of
Gansu,
Qinghai and
Sichuan three provinces, and animal husbandry is the main industry here. It is inhabited by several ethnic groups but the majority is Tibetans. Maqu County covers a total area of 10109 square kilometers, of which 13.609 million mu of natural pasture, accounting for 89.4% of the total. Maqu County is located in the upstream of the Yellow River, has the meaning of "Yellow River" in the Tibetan language.

► Awancang Nyingma Monastery
Also known as the Awancang Niangma Monastery, located in the center of Awancang town, founded in 1834 by Kham Duozhiqin Monastery Lama Oda, the temple site choose in Yellow River.
► Shouqu National Reserve of Yellow River
The First Bridge of Shouqu Yellow River
Located in the south 4 kilometers from the county, here has the pleasant scenery, the Yellow River on both sides of the green grass is luxuriant, and there are many cattle and sheep flocks. The first bridge has two big beautiful scenes. One is the "sun rise from the arch bridge". At sunrise in the morning, standing on the west side of the bridge, you will see a red sun rise from east. When rise upon the arch, like the arch lifted the red sun, very spectacular. The second is "long river sunset". Looks at the water of Yellow River at dusk in the Yellow River bridge, the setting sun sink gradually in the west, like falling into a river.
Upstream of Shouqu Yellow River
It is in the Maqu county southwest, Animaqing Snow Mountain south foothill of Awancang and Muxi countryside. The Yellow River flow into Qinghai Mentang after entering Maqu, between Balyanlkalla and Animaqing two big snow mountain valleys, it flows all the way, finally pass through blocking in Huaerqin, freely flowing into Maqu Grassland. Due to the flat terrain, poor river drain, formed a unique prairie scenery on the Yellow River.
Downstream of Shouqu Yellow River
It is situated in Maqu County west, Animaqing Snow Mountain north foothill of more than 50 kilometers of Euler Township and Oulaxiuma town. Animaqing Mountain likes a black dragon rolling from west to east, the Yellow River trapped flows from east to west and finally returns to Qinghai province. In Euler grasslands there are formed the towering snow-capped mountains, mirror-like lake, and downstream section of the Yellow River. Here is the gurgling water, charactizing a fine spring day, the exquisite scenic mountain lakes, since ancient times it is the summer resort that the monk living Buddha, dignitaries are willing to stay.
