Xiahe Town is situated in the southwest of
Gansu province named after the Daxia River There are many deep canyons mountains, and grassland scenery there is picturesque, whistling of the wind in pine forest give people a feeling of deep and remote. ► Ancient town of Bajia (Octagon Town)
Ancient town of Bajiao--A walled village that was originally built in the Han Dynasty (around 2000 years ago). Bajiao Cheng is still inhabited today.
Ancient town of Bajia located in eastern Ganjia Beach ground of confluence of Yangqu River and Yangla River in Xiahe County, it is the military stronghold where central government in China drastically fights for with Tubo, the Western Xia Regime. Octagon City gained this name because of it has eight city corners and its enceinte is a hollow cross. Octagon City total length is 2193.4 meters, the external contour is total length of 1080 meters, and the existing city covers an area of 200000 square meters. In 1981 it is listed as key cultural relics protection units in Gansu province.
► Sangke Grassland
Some 15 km (9 mi) southwest of Xiahe, Tibetan family is still herd yak on the rolling plains of the Sangke Grasslands. Sangke grassland is located in the territory Xiahe, 10 kilometers away from the county. Sangke grassland belongs to meadow steppe, at an average altitude of 3000 meters, grassland area of 70 square kilometers, is one of the main animal husbandry base of Gannan Tibetan autonomous prefecture.
► Labrang Monestery
Labrang Monastery is located in the 0.5 kilometers of western Xiahe town. It is the gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism (Shamanism) and is one of the six major monasteries. The resident monks wear saffron robes, black UGG-style boots and shaggy yellow Mohawk shaped hats.
Temple sits north to south, covering a total area of 866000 square meters, building area of more than 40 square meters. The temple has more than 90 palaces, including six big institute, 16 Buddha halls, 18 large living Buddha palaces, and pagodas and so on. It would be easy to make your days meandering about the alleys between monks’ quarters and prayer halls, or follow pilgrims spinning prayer wheels on a loop around the Kora.
