Since its inception on May 1st, 2019, Guangdong has offered a 144-hour visa-free transit policy to visitors from 54 countries. This policy allows travelers to spend up to six days exploring the rich cultural and historical heritage of Guangdong without the need for a prior visa. Whether you're passing through or planning a short-term vacation, this transit visa-free option opens a world of possibilities in Guangdong.
According to the policy, citizens from 54 countries can enter Guangdong without a visa at designated ports if they hold valid international travel documents, have connecting tickets to third countries or regions within 144 hours, and complete the temporary entry foreigner entry card.
The 144-hour countdown begins from 00:01 on the day following your arrival in Guangdong. For example, if you arrive on April 10, 2024, your stay in Guangdong will be from April 11 to April 16. You must depart from the Chinese mainland and travel to a third country or region before 00:00 on April 17th.
As of November 17, 2023, the policy extends to citizens from 54 countries. Notably, Norwegian citizens were the latest addition to this list. The countries are categorized by region as follows:

Central to the 144-hour transit visa-free policy is the principle of onward travel to a third country or region.
