Situated on the north side of Leigong Hill in Eastern Guizhou, Xijiang Miao Village is about 35 kilometers (22 miles) away from Kaili city, the capital of Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, and about 260 kilometers (162 miles) from Guiyang City, the capital city of Guizhou Province. This village is supposed to be the largest Miao Village in China. A continuous row of houses spreads in line of the hilly area. These houses are unique and grand under sunshine and verdant trees. It bears the title 'thousand household village'.
By train
If one wants to take a train to reach Xijiang Miao Village, you need to reach Kaili city first. There are direct trains to Kaili from Guiyang, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai. After arriving at Kali, take the local public bus No.1 or catch a taxi to reach Kaili General Bus Station to change the minibuses for Xijiang Miao Village and it takes less than one hour. To be noticed that if you reach the Kaili General Bus Station too late, there will not be minibuses to the village, so get there over 4:30 pm.
By bus
→Option 1
One can catch a bus to Kaili city from the Guiyang Jinyang Bus Station. the journey takes about 3 hours. Then from Kaili General Bus Station, there are frequent buses leaving for Xijiang village, and it takes about one hour.
→Option 2
From Guiyang Jinyang Bus Station, there are two direct buses to Xijiang at 09:00 and 15:00. If you miss the two direct buses, you can choose Option 1 to get to the village.
The village is compact and may take 15 minutes to walk along the main road from one end to the other.
The best time to visit to the village is from May to July, these are the most beautiful times of the year. January is also a recommended great time, because it is the time of local New Year, when a lot of unique and traditional activities and events of the Miao nationality are held.
