Where is Mt.Putuo?

Putuoshan (Putuo Mountain) is located on one of the Zhoushan Islands in eastern Zhejiang Province. It is in the middle of the Zhoushan Islands offshore from the city of Ningbo. So it easily reached from Shanghai, Hangzhou or Ningbo. Putuoshan is one of the four Buddhist Mountains of China. Others are Wutaishan, E'meishan and Jiuhuashan (Bodhimandas for Manjusri, Ksitigarbha, and Samantabhadra, respectively). Besides the many temples, the island is also lush in vegetation and a profusion of forests, all flourishing in the warm and humid climate.

How to Get Mt. Putoushan from Hangzhou?

By Long Distance Bus (Recommended)

How to get to Mt. Putuo from Hangzhou by long distance bus? Taking a bus from Hangzhou to Putuoshan is the most convenient way so far (2019-05-27). Tourists can take bus from the four main bus stations in Hangzhou to reach Zhoushan Putuo Station first, then take a ferry to reach the Mt.Putuoshan scenic area. The bus trip takes about 3-4 hours and the ferry only takes about 15 minutes to reach Putuo.

Buses from Hangzhou South Bus Station (杭州汽车南站) run from 06:38 to 19:35, 12 buses every day, with the frequence about one hour.
Buses from Hangzhou North Bus Station (杭州北站) run from 07:45 to 16:50, 8 buses every day, with the frequence about one hour and half.
Buses from Hangzhou Bus Center (杭州客运中心站) run from 07:00 to 18:45, 18 buses every day, with the frequence about 40 minutes.
Buses from Hangzhou East Railway Station Bus Center(杭州火车东站汽车站) run from 07:20 to 19:10, 26 buses every day, with the frequence about 20 minutes.

After you have reached Zhoushan station, you should get to the Zhujiajian Wugongshi Pier (朱家尖蜈蚣峙码头) for a ferry trip to the Mt. Putuoshan.You can get to the pier in the following ways.

Take public bus no.27 to the pier, this trip costs 2 yuan and 30 minutes;
Take a taxi there at the station, this trip costs 17 yuan and 10 minutes.

By High Speed Train

How to get to Mt. Putuo from Hangzhou by train? Tourists can also take high-speed train from Hangzhou to Ningbo first and then take bus from ningbo to zhoushan putuo station followed by a ferry trip as metioned above. There are over 102 high speed trains running from hangzhou to ningbo every day, and the first train departs at 02:46 and the last one departs at 21:48. This trip is no more convenient than the long distance bus suggestion. But the advantage is that high speed train indeed is more comfortable than long hours buses as it is in anywhere else.The bullet train trip will take 1 hour to reach Zhoushan putuo station.

By Air

How to get to Mt. Putuo from Hangzhou by air? Putuoshan Island has a small airport--zhoushan Airport, the flights reaching the island directly are mainly depart from Xiamen, Jinan, Quanzhou, Fuyang, Tianjin, Shangrao, Shanghai, Yantai, Chaoshan, Fuzhou and Qingdao. So there are no directly flights from Hangzhou to Putuoshan. But if you really want to get rid of all the hassle of trains, buses, taxis, ferries, we would suggest you to travel to Shanghai first and fly from shanghai pudong airport to reach the Putuo island. There is only one airline, China Estern Airline flies to Putuoshan airport every day. It departs at 12:20 and arrives at 13:10.
