How to Get to Mt. Changbai

► Location: Mt. Changbai Natural Reserve is located at Baihe Town, Antu County, Yanbian Prefecture, Jilin Province. And it is 123 km from Changbaishan Airport (2 h of driving), 411 km from Changchun (about 5.5 h of driving), and 550 km from Shenyang (7.5 h of driving).

► How to Get to Mt. Changbai

By flight to Mt. Changbai

First take flight to Changchun, next fly to Changbaishan Airport, and then take bus to Mt. Changbai Natural Reserve. In winter, you may take direct flight to Changbaishan Airport from cities like Shanghai.

Changchun Airport to Changbaishan Airport: 1 flight only for everyday (11:10 AM-12:05 AM).

Changbaishan Airport to Mt. Changbai: you could take airport shuttle bus to Mt. Changbai from Changbaishan Airport, and those shuttle buses are available at 9:30 AM, 12:30 AM, 20:30 PM, and cost 40 yuan per person. This single journey takes about 2 hours.

By train to Mt. Changbai

Tourists could take train to Mt. Changbai in these two ways:

Changchun-Tonghua Railway Station- Baihe Railway Station-the north slope of Mt. Changbai(by bus or taxi, 48 km, 1 hour).

Changchun-Tonghua Railway Station- Songjianghe Railway Station-the north slope of Mt. Changbai(by bus or taxi).

Mt. Changbai is located at the southeast of Jilin Province, and the border between China and North Korea. Mt. Changbai or Changbaishan is the general name of a series of mountains or peaks, and its highest peak of Mt. Changbai in North Korea, named the General Peak, has an altitude of 2749 meters while Baiyun Peak, its highest peak in China, is 2691 meters. Mt. Changbai is the birthplace of Yalu River, Songhua River and Tumen River.

In area around Mt. Changbai, the Man ethnic group and the Chaoxian ethnic group live for a pretty long time and the Man ethnic group considers it as their birthplace and also as the holy mountain of the Man culture. The word "Changbai" also has a good moral meaning for forever love, and it represents people's yearning and praise for loyalty and forever love.

► Best time to visit Mt. Changbai: July to September. Due to its latitude and high elevation, Mt. Changbai is covered by snow almost all year round, and has a cold weather, while from July to September is the most comfortable season for travelling to Mt. Changbai, and tourists could see green plants and colorful flowers. Moreover, from October to April, tourists could go for gorgeous snow views and skiing.

► Mt. Changbai weather: Mt. Changbai has long and cold winter, short and cool summer, its spring with strong and dry wind, and cool autumn with many foggy days. The average annual temperature is between - 7 ℃ and 3 ℃, the average temperature in July is not more than 10 ℃, while the coldest month January has an average temperature of about - 20 ℃, which could lower to - 44 ℃. It begins to snow from October, and the lowest temperature falls to below 0 ℃.  From October to March, Mt. Changbai is in a snow time, and the snow depth in winter is around 50 cm, and 70 cm in some places.

► Mt. Changbai Natural Reserve. For sightseeing, tourists could go to the North Scenic Area or the West Scenic Area of Mt. Changbain and here are some facts for you.
 

• Open time: 07:30-17:00 (1th, January-3rd, September), 08:00-17:00(4th, September-31th, December).

In the North Slope, tourists could see the Heaven Lake, Changbai Waterfall, Julong Spring, Lvyuan Pool Underneath Forest. Julong Spring has over 100 springs, and the highest temperature of the spring is 83℃, which could boil eggs in 20 min.

In the West Slope, there are less scenic spots, Heaven Lake, Flower Sea, Changbaishan  Grand Canyon. The Canyon is a ground fissure belt which is formed by volcano eruption. It has a length of 60 km, a width from several meters to over 300 meters, and a depth of 150 meters.

► Tips for climbing Mt. Changbai
 

• The wind is strong, you may need a veil for facial protection.
   
• Wear warm clothes or rent some, because it is frigid in winter, and cold even in summer.

Mt. Changbai Tour Itinerary

► How many days for Mt. Changbai tour: 1-3 days. Mt. Changbai has 2 slopes for sightseeing, 1 day for each slope, and 1 night for accommodation. Tourists could spend 1 day or 2 days for Mt. Changbai sightseeing.

► Where to stay: tourists could stay in Baihe Town close to the North Slope, Wanda Resort close to the West Slope, or other places. Wanda Resort has bus direct to the West Slope and Changbaishan Airport.

► Day 1(6 hours for sightseeing):
 

• Get to the entrance of the North Scenic Area before 9:00 AM.
• Take tourist bus to the transfer center, and see the plants in this vertical landscape belt.
• take bus or walk to the Heaven Lake and back to the transfer center. With good luck, you could see the original face of the lake without covering by fog.
• Walk to see the splendid waterfalls, with a fall of 68 meters.
• Travel to the Julong Spring from the waterfalls, and taste eggs boiled by hot spring water.
• Go to the Small Heaven Lake, Lvyuan Pook and Underneath Forest, then go back to the entrance place for leaving at about 4:00 PM.
• Stay 1 night in Mt. Changbai and rest your feet.

Day 2 (4 hours for sightseeing):

• Take bus to the entrance of the West Scenic Area before 9:00 AM.
• Take tourist bus to the service center, about 40 min.
• Climb to the mountain top to see Heaven Lake and the General Mountain, 900 meters in 1442 steps, taking about 30 min.
• Go to see beautiful flowers in the Flower Sea, visit the canyon and other places
• Leaving Mt. Changbai.
