Jiuzhaigou Transportation

Now, it is much easier for travelers to get to Jiuzhaigou National Park. This paradise on earth is accessible by flight and long-distance buses. If taking airplane, there are direct flights from Beijing, Xian, Guangzhou and some other cities to Jiuzhaigou. If not direct flights from your gateway city in China, you can transfer from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou Jiuhuang Airport. If you choose to take train, you also need to get to Chengdu first and then take long-distance bus to Jiuzhaigou, which will take about 10 hrs. The road to Jiuzhaigou is dangerous. Therefore, if you don’t have experience of driving in the mountains, we do not recommend self-driving tour there.

In Jiuzhaigou Valley, there are green sightseeing shuttle buses connecting each scenic spot in the scenic area.

How to Get to Jiuzhai Valley by Train

The most convenient way to get to Jiuzhai Valley from Chengdu is taking high-speed train, which takes about 2 hours. And there are high-speed trains from Chengdu to Jiuzhai Valley every day from 6:00 to 19:00. Compared with taking airplane, you will spend less time on getting to the airport and waiting if you take the high-speed train.

How to Get to Jiuzhai Valley by Air

Currently, the direct flight to Jiuzhai Huanglong Airport is limited from major cities in China. However, there are still many flights from major cities of China to Chengdu. And getting to Jiuzhai Valley from Chengdu is very convenient by high-speed train. So you can take airplane to Chengdu forst, then transfer to Jiuzhai Valley. Generally sepaking, there is only one flight from Chengdu to Jiuzhai Valley every day, which takes about an hour. But please note that there is not flight from Chengdu to Jiuzhai Valley sometimes. To guarantee your trip in Jiuzhai Valley, you'd better take high-speed train to Jiuzhai Valley from Chengdu.

Jiuzhaigou Huanglong Airport is still 88 km (55 miles) away from the entrance of Jiuzhaigou Valley Natural Reserve (1.5 hours by driving), and 50 km (31 miles) away from Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area (1 hour by driving).

From Jiuhuang Aiport to Jiuzhaigou, the shuttle bus will cost you about 45 yuan per person and it takes 1.5 -2 hrs to get there.
From Jiuhuang Aiport to Huanglong, the shuttle bus will cost you about 22 yuan per person and it takes 1 -1.5 hrs to get there.

The shuttle bus usually departs when full of passengers. In off season, the shuttle bus may not take passengers. So, you’d better reserve a taxi or a private transfer in advance. The taxi fee is around 250 CNY in off-season and 300 to 400 CNY in peak season.

How to Get to Jiuzhai Valley by Bus

There are direct buses from Chengdu, Mianyang, Dujiangyan and other cities to Jiuzhaigou. You’d better buy the ticket one day in advance. The driving time is around 8 to 10 hrs. You should make sure that where you going as Jiuzhaigou Natural Reserve and Jiuzhaigou County are not the same place.

From Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou

Option 1: Chengdu New South Gate Bus Station (Xinanmen Bus Station)

Departure: 06:30-8:00 p.m.
Schedule: one to three regular buses or above each day
Bus fare: 100-170 CNY
Address: Xinnanmen, No.57, Linjiang Road, Wuhou District, Chengdu

Option 2: Chadianzi Bus Station
Departure: 06:10-8:00 p.m.
Bus fare: 120-170 CNY
Schedule: several buses each day, depending on the season and time
Address: No.289, Wuduan, West Sanhuan Road, Chengdu (passengers can take Subway No.2 to get there)
Tips: there are also buses to Chuanzhusi.
rom Jiuzhaigou to Chengdu

Six buses departing at 06:20, 07:00, 07:30, 08:00, 08:10 and 08:30 (for reference only) take passengers from Jiuzhaigou to Chengdu New South Gate Bus Station or Chadianzi Bus Station. The bus fare is around 145 CNY.

From Jiuzhaigou to Mianyang

Three regular buses departing at 06:30, 07:20, and 08:20 (for reference only) connect Jiuzhaigou and Mianyang. The bus fare is around 103 CNY.

Chartered Bus

From Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou, chartered bus costs about 1000 - 2000 CNY, and about 250 – 300 CNY per person. If driving in night, it will be more expensive. Dajiuzhai Circle Line is an important tourism trunk, which is 913 km long with the starting point Chengdu and terminal point Jiuzhaigou. It can be divided into East Line and West Line.

West Line: Chengdu-Dujiangyan-Wenchuan-Maoxian-Songpan-Chuanzhushi-Jiuzhaigou (430 km)

East Line: Chengdu-Guanghan-Deyang-Mianyang-Jianyou-Pingwu-Jiuzhaigou County-Jiuzhaigou (520 km)

Jiuzhaigou Sightseeing Bus

In Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area, the most continent way is taking sightseeing bus. The price of the sightseeing bus is about 90 CNY in peak season and 80 CNY in off season. You can buy the ticket at ticket office. The ticket could only be used in the scenic area and can not be used when you enter the scenic area for the second time. The service time of the buses is 07:30 – 19:00.

The sightseeing buses run circularly between Shuzheng Valley, Rize Valley, Zhechawa Valley.

The last bus from Nuorilang Waterfall to Jiuzhaigou departures at 19:00.

Getting around Jiuzhaigou by bus or taxi

There are many interesting scenic or historical attractions nearby Jiuzhaigou Valley, including Huanglong National Park, Muni Valley, Godness Lake, Songpan Old Town, Langmusi, etc. The direct buses only link Jiuzhaigou with Huanglong, Chuanzhusi and Songpan, so for travelers making the way to other scenic areas, you have to transfer to another bus in Songpan or Chuanzhusi. Or you can take a taxi or charter bus to travel around.

From Jiuzhaigou Bus Terminal (500m from the entrance of Jiuzhaigou Valley)

To Huanglong (144km / 89 miles, about 2 hours’ drive): There are regular buses in the peak season. The bus fare is around 40 CNY
To Songpan (about 1.5 hours’ drive): The bus departs at around 07:20. The bus fare is around 27CNY.
To Chuanzhusi (about 30 minutes’ drive): The bus departs at around 07:20. The bus fare is around 24CNY.

Hiking on Plank Road

Hiking in Jiuzhaigou can be a little tired but you can appreciate the beauty of the landscape better and more flexible. Some scenic spots are close to each other, so you can walk.

The plank road is closed from the early or middle of November and opened in March or April the next year. It will be just partly closed. The roads near Pear Shoal, Five Color Pool, Five-Flower Lake and Shuzheng Qunhai are still passable.
