Kunming - Lijiang Trains
There are 10 pairs of trains traveling between Kunming and Lijiang every day. It takes from about 2 hours and 58 minutes to 10 hours and 6 minutes on the road for one way, depending on different trains. For it takes a little long time on the road, it is recommended to take the D-seris bullet train, so that you can save time for sightseeing activity during the day.
►Train from Kunming to Lijiang
Trains from Kunming to Lijiang depart usually from 08:15 to 23:25 every day. They starst off from Kunming Railway Station and arrive at Lijiang Railway Station.
D8772 leaving at 8:15 am and arriving at 11:13 am takes the shortest time with only 2 hours and 58 minutes. It is also the first train from Kunming - Lijiang trains. Over-night train K9616 (22:00-6:25) and K9692 (23:25-9:31) are good ones to take, if you want to spend a night on the train.
►Train from Lijiang to Kunming
Trains from Lijiang to Kunming departs from Lijiang Railway Station and arrive at Kunming Railway Station. The earliest train is D8774 leaving at 08:25 am to 11:23 am with the shortest running, only 2 hours and 58 minutes. There are 9 trains from Lijiang to Kunming every day and 6 of them are bullet trains. D-seris bullet trains are suggested to take.
Notes for Taking Train in China
1. Booking an original train is easier than booking a passing-by train. Train ticket can be booked 20 days in advance at most.
2. Generally, the seats on the train in China have tow types including the first-class seat and the second-class seat or soft seat and hard seat. Also, there are two kinds of sleeper seats on China's trains which are hard sleeper seat and soft sleeper seat. Hard sleeper seats are divided into upper hard sleeper, middle hard sleeper and lower hard sleeper (lower hard sleeper is the best); while soft sleeper seats are divided into upper soft sleeper and lower soft sleeper (lower soft sleeper is better).
3. In China, taking a train is a comparative cheaper way to cut down the travel cost. While correspondingly, the comfortable level is lower than by air.
Luggage: you need to take the luggages by yourself and keep an eye of them on transporting time, no luggage-checking service on the train.
Carriage: it may be crowded when in the domestic travel seasons as well as summer holidays.

Tips for Travel to Lijiang and Kunming
•Domestic Travel High Season
The most crowded seasons in China are Chinese Spring Festival (usually in late Jan or early Feb.), International Labor Day (May 01 to 03) and National Day (Oct 01-07). Spring Festival and the National Day golden week are the most crowded time for travelling.
•Best Time to Visit Lijiang:
Generally, Lijiang is always popular with tourists in any month of the year. But the best time to visit Lijiang can be started from April to October. Considering the fairly wide difference in day-and-night temperatures in spring and winter; the months from Apr to Oct are the most favourable seasons for coming here.
•Best Time to Visit Kunming:
With the title of City of Eternal Spring, Kunming is a destination suitable for travelling throughout the whole year. However, the best time to visit Kunming is from March to October. One can find a lot of Yunnan ethnic celebrations during these times in addition to many fruits and blossoms within this period of time. Because of this, visiting within this time will take you the most enjoyment and delight.
