Mount Everest is the highest peak, located in Tingri County, Shigatse, Tibet and close to the border between China and Nepal. Lhasa is the biggest city of Tibet, located in the middle of Tibet, and it is the first stop to Tibet.
Mount Everest is in the south of Tibet, about 700 km from Lhasa, and it takes about 14 hours from Lhasa to Mount Everest.
For entering Tibet legally, you need to apply for Chinese tourist visa, Tibet Entry Permit, Foreigner Travel Passport, Border Permit, and you should book Tiber tour package from travel agency, and be accompanied by tour guides while traveling in Tibet.
For foreign travelers, your Tibet tours should be arranged by travel agency, and they could arrange tour guides, cars, and drivers for you. Drivers would pick you and tour guides at hotels in Lhasa, and drive you to Mount Everest.

From Lhasa to Mount Everest, the distance is about 700, and it takes about 14 hours of driving. But travelling from Lhasa to Mount Everest, usually is not go like this. Actually, travelers would have stops at Yamdrok Lake, Tingri, Rongbuk Monastery.
The Lhasa-Mount Everest journey would take 3-4 days, and arranged like this:
Day 1: Lhasa-Shigatse- Lhase-Tingri, and stay 1 night in Tingri.
Day2:Tingri-Rongbuk Monastery, and stay 1 night in Rongbuk Monastery.
Day 3: Rongbuk Monastery-Mount Everest Base Camp-Mount Everest observation dock-Shigatse, and stay 1 night in Shigatse.
Day 4: Shigatse-Lhasa
The transportation fare is very expensive from Lhasa to Mount Everest, because the distance is so far. The fare for chartering a car with 4 seats would over 700 USD per person for a round trip of 3-4 days, 4 pax.
The travel cost from Lhasa to Mount Everest would be much higher, because you need to cover accommodation, dining, and sightseeing.
