Mount Tai locates in the middle part of Shandong province spanning two cities (Tai’an city and Jinan city) with total area of 426 square kilometers. It is for its spectacular, elevation, grandness, width, steadiness and massiness. The typical character of natural scenery of Mount Tai is imposing, steepy, serene, surprising, profound, secluded, and spacious.
Qingdao is a major city in eastern Shandong Province, Eastern China. It is about 332 kilometers away from Mount Tai. There are choices from Qingdao to Mount Tai: by train, by bus or by car rental.
There are regular high-speed trains to from Qingdao Tai’an City or Express trains from Qingdao to Tai Shan.
Express trains from Qingdao to Tai Shan and take 6 hours one way. It departs from Qingdao Railway Station and arrives at Tai Shan Railway Station. To get from the train station (the bus stop isn't near the station, it's about 5 minutes walk to the downtown, near KFC, Pizza Hut and Dico's to the base of Taishan by local bus. After you get out from the station, you can take Public Bus No.3 or a taxi there to get to Taishan Mount Scenic area. Public Bus No.3 connects two entrances of Moun Tai Scenic Area - if you take the bus from the bus stop closer to Dico's/Pizza Hut it will stop at the entrance without the bus to the Halfway. Please get off in the terminal (Tian Di Square Stop) and transfer to the tourist car to start your adventure tour in Mount Tai. Public Bus No.3 only takes about 15 minutes and costs ¥2.
High-speed trains also run from Qingdao and take about only 3 hours, though the ticket price is much higher than Express trains. It departs from Qingdao Railway Station and arrives at Tai’an Railway Station. Tai’an Railway Station is about 13 kilometers away from Tai Mount Scenic area. It takes less than 30 minutes by taxi and cost around 30 yuan. Or you can choose to take Bus 37 out the station, and get off at Pu Zhao Temple, then walk to the scenic area. Public bus take about 1 and 10 minutes.
Purchasing your train ticket in advance is a must during busy season, unless you don't mind standing in the aisle for the entire trip. Both the regular and express trains pass through Jinan.
Taxis from the Tai'an train station are available to the foot of the trails up Tai Shan and cost about ¥7 (Taishan Bus Station) to ¥10 (Red Door). A brisk walk experiencing some of the culture and atmosphere of the city is a wonderful option for those wanting to warm up for the hike up the mountain itself.
Alternatively, you can also take a bus from Qingdao Long-distance Bus Station (2 Wenzhou Road, Sifang District, Qingdao). The trip takes 6 hours and costs around ¥128. Unfortunately, it is in fact impossible to figure out the bus schedule without going to the bus station (there is no phone number to call and nobody in town seems to be familiar with the schedule), but the bus station is a short taxi ride from town.
It you prefer a more flexible trip on the road, you can book car rental service through a travel agency with driver and tour guide.
