Best Time to Visit Sichuan

Weather in Sichuan varies from different areas, the eastern part is warm without extreme cold days, while the western part is cold with no summer times. Due to the particular geological conditions in Sichuan, it’s hard to tell which season is the best time for a visit, since you may have varieties of views from each period of time in different areas, all depends on places you want to visit. How to Get to & Get around Sichuan

By Plane

There are airports in Chengdu, Jiuzhaigou and Garze, for Leshan, you can take train or coach from Chengdu.
 

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, important in both middle China and southwest China, is one of the largest eight regional hubs in China which is accessible to reach from 131 cities in China and 78 international destinations.
 

Jiuzhaigou Huanglong Airport, or Jiuhuang Airport, located in Songpan County, Sichuan Province, is available from main cities in China like Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Chongqing. Since it takes more than 10 hours from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou by bus, more people choose to travel to Jiuzhaigou by air.
 

Kangding Airport, a civil airport in Kangding of Sichuan Province, is the third highest altitude airport in the world with an average altitude of 4242.56 meters above the sea level. You can only take planes to Garze from Chengdu and Chongqing, but it’s very convenient to transfer to these two cities from most of the cities in China.
 


By Train

After continuous hard work of railway construction, Sichuan has become an important transportation hub in the southwest China. Both high speed train and normal train are available to Sichuan. And since Chengdu is the largest transportation hub in Southwest China, you can take trains from most of cities in China to Chengdu and transfer to your destination, convenient and fast.
 


By Highway

Sichuan has the longest highway in western which ranks the second in China. There are main highways like Sichuan-Tibet Highway, Sichuan-Qinghai Highway, Sichuan-Yunnan Highway, connected to different parts of China.

 

Get around Sichuan

There is no train to Jiuzhaigou and Garze, you can take plane or bus from Chengdu. There are regular travel buses between Chengdu and Jiuzhaigou - Huanglong, Daocheng Yading, Mt. Emei, Leshan, Kangding, Dujiangyan, Mianyang, and other scenic areas.

How Many Days to Stay in Sichuan

Since there are a great deal of tourist destinations in Sichuan, it’s really hard to tell how long you have to stay in Sichuan Province. ►In Jiuzhaigou, you can choose a hotel near Jiuzhaigou Valley, it’s convenient to both Jiuzhaigou Valley and Huanglong Scenic Area. The altitude of Huanglong Scenic Area is much higher, some tourists may get altitude sickness. Also, you can stay in Songpan Ancient Town or Chuanzhusi Town.
 

►In Garze, it depends on places you want to visit in Garze, Doacheng Yading, you can either stay in Daocheng county or Yading Village, for your visit in Daocheng Yading. And you can also stay in Kangding and Xinduqiao Village, or near Hailuogou.

►For Leshan, you can spend one day in Leshan city to visit the Leshan Giant Buddha and then transfer to Emei Mountain. If you want to watch the sunrise on the golden summit, you’d better choose a hotel on the mountaintop. If not, you can either book a hotel in the downtown or at the foot of Mt. Emei, near Baoguo Temple.
