Xiamen is suitable for travel all the year round, and the best time to visit Xiamen is in spring and autumn, especially from April to November every year.

Travel to Xiamen in Spring

Spring is the golden time to travel to Xiamen. The weather in spring changes a lot and there easily appears low temperature and overcast and rainy days. The average temperature is about 16.8℃~24.3 ℃.

Qingjing Mosque: As the oldest existing mosque in Xiamen, even in China and well known to the Islamic world, it was designed after the mosque in Damascus of Syria and built with pure granite. Its pointed-arch portal, 20 meters high, has three layers. The outer and middle layers are similar to the caisson ceiling in Chinese ancient architecture. The vaulted inner layer took on the architectural style of ancient Arab. It is clear that architecturally, the mosque is a combination of Chinese and Islamic styles. Standing under the vault, one can realize the time-honored cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries.

Travel to Xiamen in Summer

Summer is the hottest season in Xiamen. The extreme maximum temperature can reach more than 35℃. This season is mostly influenced by tropical storm and typhoon. The average temperature in Xiamen's summer is about 27.4 ℃.

Gulangyu Island: On the islet, tourists can find the winding coastal lines, natural and gentle seaside bathing grounds with the fine sands, and oddly shaped reefs. The whole islet offers a clean, tidy and tranquil environment. Besides, many building on the islet showing both the Chinese and foreign architectural styles have been well preserved. Hence Gulang Islet is known as the gallery of International architecture.

Travel to Xiamen in Autumn

Another golden time to travel to Xiamen will be Autumn months including September, October, and November. Sping is a season with little rain, and October is a month mostly influenced by typhoon. The average temperature in this season is about 21.2℃.

Hakka Tulou in Nanjing: Tulou is a unique and mysterious Hakka architecture with a thick earth wall enclosure found only in the mountainous areas in southwestern Fujian province; they are precious presentation of the art of traditional Chinese architecture and earth-working civilization which originated from the ancient clan society, and can be found at the ancient sites like Banpo in Xi'an. It is usually an enclosed buildings, mostly square or circular in configuration, with a very thick earth wall which is up to 6 feet thick and wooden skeletons, from three to five stories high, housing up to 80 families.

Travel to Xiamen in Winter

The average temperature in winter in Xiamen is about 13.3℃. In this season, cold wave, severe cold air, frost and coastal gale often appear.

South Putuo Temple: It is a famous temple in South Fujian as well as in China which backs on to a group of exquisite peaks and is adjacent to Xiamen University. The temple has endless worshippers and pilgrims all the year around. The statue of Goddess of Mercy with 1,000 hands was built with the superb craftsmanship, and the Sutra House contains various kinds of Buddhist relics. A great number of inscriptions by celebrities have been well preserved round this temple, and a Chinese character 'Buddha' was inscribed on a cliff behind the temple, nearly five meters high and over three meters wide.

•Be careful of the changeable temperature. A few chilly days could be followed by relatively hot weather. So it is better to take some early winter clothes to protect you away from the sudden low temperature.
