Terracotta Warriors Facts
The Terracotta Army or Terracotta Warriors is located at Lintong district, Xi’an, and about one kilometer away from the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor who united China and built an empire. The Terracotta Army is buried with the First Qin Emperor, Yingzheng, and it is a collection of clay soldiers as a symbol of its armies which helped him to unite China.
The Terracotta Army faces to the east, an has four pits. Pit 1 covers an area of 14,260 square meters, and it has about 6,000 items of clay soldiers and horses, and many bronze weapons. Pit 2 covers an area of 6,000 square meters, and it has about 1,300 items of clay soldiers and horses, and it has more types of armies than Pit 1. Pit 3 covers an area of 520 square meters, and Pit 4 is empty. The three pits have terracotta soldiers, chariots and weapons, and about 8,000 terracotta soldiers are lining up in the pits, with lifelike facial expressions. Terracotta Warriors entrance fee/ticket : 150 yuan (1st March-30th November) 120 yuan(1st December-end of February)
Ticket buying: first you could use wechat pay and book a ticket at the official website, second you can a ticket from a ticket machine at this tourist site, and third you may line up and buy a ticket at the ticket window. For your ticket, please keep it well, and you need present it for more than once.
Tour time: get up early and get to Xi’an Railway Station before 8:00, and take the first bus at 8:00 to the Terracotta Army. You get to the Terracotta Army at about 9:00, then buy yourself a ticket. After having a tour about 3 hours, you could take a free shuttle bus and go to visit Lishan Garden which is also a part of Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor, without buying another ticket. A tour in Lishan Garden may cost about 1.5 hours. When you go back to Xi’an downtown it will be at 15:00 o’clock. Then I recommend you to hang out at Huimin street or Muslim street.
Tour guide: pay for a tour guide in this historical site, otherwise, you won’t know the deep historical things. Tour guide provides three languages service: Chinese, English and Japanese. The fare for paying a tour guide to a group of less than 6 is about 90 yuan, a group of 6-11, 100 yuan, a group of more than 12, 110 yuan. The rent fare for a headset is 8 yuan. In the case that you don’t have any tour partner, you may invite other tourists and share the tour guide fare. If you don’t want a tour guide, you may rent an audio guide, which costs 30 yuan, with a deposit of 100 yuan.
Terracotta sculpture: you may see those terracotta sculptures are in a color of yellow, but in fact they are colorful sculpture, and the change of color is due to excavation and oxidation.
From Xi’an International Airport to Terracotta Warriors:
Option one: take an airport shuttle bus to Lintong Bus Station, which costs 30 yuan. The airport shuttle bus starts at 10:30, 12:30, 15:00 and 17:30. Then you take a taxi to the Terracotta Army.
Option two: you take an airport shuttle bus to Xi’an Railway Station, then you take a public bus to the Terracotta Army.
From Xi’an Railway Station to Terracotta Warriors:
Option one: take No.306 public bus ( No. 5 Tour public bus) or No. 915 and No. 914 public bus from the east square of Xi’an Railway Station, and No.306 public bus takes about 1 hour and costs about 7 yuan.
Option two: you may take a taxi or charter a car and the taxi fare from Xi’an Railway Station to the Terracotta Army is about 120 yuan.

First, go to Pit 1. It is the biggest Pit and with thousands of clay soldiers. Pit 1 is uncovered accidentally by farmers in 1973.
Second, come to Pit 3. It is the smallest Pit and regarded as the command center.
Third, get to Pit 2. It is the essence of The Terracotta Army, and has much more types of army.
Fourth, go to exhibition hall. In the exhibition hall, you can see bronze carriage and horse, which is shrank to the half of actual size. It has four horses and one umbrella and some weapons, and the carriage is decorated with gold and silver pattern. Moreover, in here, you can see well-kept soldiers with their original colors and other items.
Fifth, you take a free shuttle bus to Lishan Garden which is the tomb of the First Qin Emperor, and it covers an area of 56.25 square kilometers, which is the biggest mausoleum among that of all emperors. In here you can also visit two pits, which have terracotta civil officers and military officers.
After a tour in the Terracotta Army, you go back to Xi’an Railway Station. Then I recommend you take a public bus to Muslim street or Huimin street, which is a pedestrian street, and also a food street. In this street, you have a taste of Xi’an cruise and snack, and buy some special local product including food, dessert, and handcraft. In here, you may hang out for about 2 hours, then you go back to hotel to have a sound rest.
