Chairman Mao Memorial Hall was built to commemorate the leader Mao Zedong. It is located in
Tiananmen Square, to the south the People's Heroes Monument. This memorial hall was completed building on May 24, 1977, covering over 57,000 square meters, of which total construction area is 28,000 square meters. The main building of it is square; outside of it has 44 yellow granite building columns. Between columns have floral Guangzhou Shiwan ceramic plates. There are two layers of glass roof cornices, and there are sunflower reliefs between eaves inlay. The hall is 260 meters long from north to south and 220 meters wide from east to west.
About Chairman Mao
Chairman Mao (1893-1976), whose full name is Mao Zedong, was born in 1898 in Xiangtan, Hunan Province. He was a poet, a great Marxist, proletarian revolutionist, strategist and theorist. He was the main founders and leaders of the communist party of China and the Chinese people's liberation army (PLA) of the People's Republic of China. From 1949 to 1976, Mao Zedong served as the supreme leader of the People's Republic of China.
Main buildings in the Memorial Hall
• North Hall
Inside the North Hall, there is a white marble statue of Chairman Mao in the middle, which has a height of 3.45 m. The background is a needlepoint named "motherland", which are 23.74 meters wide and 6.6 meters high. There are 4 square columns inside, which is made of Jiangsu Wuxi red cream marble. On the top of the columns is decorated by Tianshan white marble stone. And the floors are paved with Hangzhou gray marble. There are also 110 glass sunflower lights up the roof. .
• Zhanyang Hall
There is a crystal coffin in the middle of Zhanyang Hall, where is placed the remains of Chairman Mao Zedong. Chairman Mao, who wears a gray tunic and is covered with the Communist Party of China flag. The base of the crystal coffin is made of Taishan black granite. The coffin surrounded is inlayed with gold party emblem, national emblem, badge and year of birth and death of Chairman Mao Zedong .

• Opening Hour: Tuesday to Sunday: 8:00 am -12:00 am; from 1 July to 31 August every year: 7:00 am-11:00 am
• Transprotation: visitors can take Buses No. 1, 2, 17, 20, 37, 52, 57, 802 to Tiananmen Square or take the subway to Tiananmen Square to get off.
