The Chaoshan Historical and Cultural Expo Center (Chao Expo Center), located in the Nanbin area of Shantou City, Guangdong Province, on the cultural axis, backs on to the Queshi Scenic Area's Bijia Mountain and faces the Shantou Inner Bay. It is the core building of the Chaoshan Historical and Cultural Expo Park.
The collections of the Chaoshan Historical and Cultural Expo Center cover categories such as inlaid porcelain, wood carving, stone carving, color painting, etc. The collections include collection materials of social changes in the Chaozhou area, specimens unearthed in the Chaozhou area, related cultural relics, relics of customs and habits, and various representative historical witnesses related to production and life, important figures and major events of overseas Chinese from different historical periods in the Chaozhou area.
The Chao Expo Center has a total construction area of about 70,000 square meters and is 46.3 meters high. Its architectural shape draws on elements such as natural scenery, cultural landscape, folk customs, etc. of the Chaoshan area, such as mountain and sea features, red-headed boats, Chaozhou dwellings, etc., which are very characteristic of Chaoshou. Its architectural form presents a dynamic change, facing the sea on one side and the mountain on the other, reflecting the concept of "mountain and sea integration". Chaoshan Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall:
The intangible cultural heritage hall is located on the fifth floor of the Expo Center. It gathers a large number of exquisite artworks from the Chaoshan area and displays them in various forms. The intangible cultural heritage projects with distinctive characteristics of the Chaoshan area include Chao opera, wood carving, ceramic micro-writing, artistic porcelain, Chao embroidery, horse lanterns, etc., which show the wisdom and creativity of the Chaoshan people. The second exhibition hall of the intangible cultural heritage hall uses various large-scale modern installations to display Chaoshan intangible cultural heritage projects. Some intangible cultural heritage projects use multimedia AR enhancement technology to deepen the sense of personal participation and experience the charm of Chaoshan intangible cultural heritage.
Chaoshou Overseas Chinese Museum:
Chaoshou is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese. This Overseas Chinese Museum focuses on displaying and promoting Chaozhou history and culture, Chaozhou overseas Chinese culture and its spirit. A piece of precious photos, a piece of historical objects, tell the hardships of leaving their hometowns and going abroad to work in those years.
Shantou Art Museum:
The Shantou Art Museum is divided into public exhibition halls and individual artist exhibition halls. It is located on the third, fourth and fifth floors of the Chao Expo Center. It is a collection, research, display, education, propaganda, exchange and service center for modern and contemporary art in eastern Guangdong. It includes oil painting, watercolor painting, printmaking, sculpture, etc., allowing you to appreciate the beauty of different styles and schools of art. The most precious treasure of the Chao Expo Center is a huge oil painting "Chaoshan Scenic Map" (《潮汕胜景图》). It was written by Mr. Rao Zongyi, a famous master of Chaoshan studies. 128 well-known Chaoshan painters from home and abroad participated in it. It is 60 meters long and 1.4 meters wide. It took four years to complete. It depicts the natural scenery, cultural landscape, folk customs, etc. of the Chaozhou area. It is a scroll that combines Chaoshan characteristics. It uses both traditional Chinese landscape painting techniques and Western perspective methods to form a unique style and effect. It not only shows the beauty of Chaoshan but also shows the emotions and ideals of Chaoshan people.
