A platform for global Hakka people to seek their roots and cultural exchange
The China Hakka Museum is located in the urban area of Meizhou City, Guangdong Province, which is known as the "World Hakka Capital". It consists of the main museum and several branches, such as the Huang Zunxian Memorial Hall, the Meizhou University Presidents Hall, the Meizhou Generals Hall, the Meizhou Overseas Chinese Museum, the Hakka Plaque Hall, the Meizhou Famous People and Honest Officials Hall, the Exhibition Center, and the Hakka Cultural and Museum Magazine.
The main museum is a round-shaped building with two floors, covering an area of 170.3 acres and a construction area of 37,000 square meters. The design of the main museum is inspired by the Hakka residential buildings, which are called tulou, meaning "earthen buildings". They symbolize the unity and development of the Hakka people.
On the first floor of the main museum, there is a large character "公式" on the wall, which means "formula" in Chinese. "亻厓" is a typical Hakka dialect word that means "I" or "me" in the first person. On the second floor of the main museum, there is a permanent exhibition on the theme of "Hakka People", which is divided into three chapters: Origin, Culture, and Spirit. It comprehensively shows the history, status, and future of the Hakka ethnic group.
In addition to the main museum, there are also several branches in the Hakka Park, such as the University Presidents Hall, the Famous People and Honest Officials Hall, and the Generals Hall. Except for the main museum, which is newly built, the rest are renovated from local residences, retaining the traditional Hakka elements and original architectural forms.
Next to the Hakka Park, there is also the Huang Zunxian Memorial Hall, which consists of the Renjing House and the Ronglu House. As a branch of the Hakka Museum, the Huang Zunxian Memorial Hall is a thematic museum that collects, displays, and studies the outstanding diplomat, enlightenment thinker, reform pioneer, and patriotic poet Huang Zunxian in modern China. The adjacent Enyuan House is used as the Hakka Plaque Hall.
Huang Zunxian Memorial Hall
The Huang Zunxian Memorial Hall is located in Dongshan Xiaoxiyan, Meijiang District, Meizhou City. It consists of the Renjing House, the Ronglu House, and the Enyuan House. It is a thematic museum that collects, displays, and studies the famous patriotic poet, outstanding diplomat, thinker, and politician Huang Zunxian in modern China.
Meizhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall
The Meizhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall is located in the Enyuan House, a residential building. Through the dynamic presentation of 160 intangible cultural heritage projects, it tells a story of a wanderer returning home, and takes the audience on a wonderful journey of nostalgia.
Meizhou Overseas Chinese Museum
The Meizhou Overseas Chinese Museum is located on Meilong Road, Jiangnan, Meizhou City. It is a building with the characteristics of Hakka residential buildings. The museum has 13 thematic exhibition halls, such as the Thailand Hall, the United States Hall, the Singapore Hall, and the Canada Hall. It uses a large number of detailed and rich historical materials, precious overseas Chinese cultural relics, and multimedia, scenes, and pictures to show the history of hard work and entrepreneurship of the overseas Hakka people and their contributions to the country and their hometown.
Meizhou University Presidents Hall
The Meizhou University Presidents Hall is located in the Xianqin Building of the China Hakka Museum. It is a traditional Hakka residential building with a brick-concrete structure, two entrances, two floors, and four courtyards. It was built in the 1940s. The hall has an exhibition of "The Achievements of Meizhou University Presidents", which mainly introduces and displays the life stories, academic achievements, and major contributions of the university presidents and secretaries from Meizhou at home and abroad since the late Qing Dynasty.
Meizhou Generals Hall
The Meizhou Generals Hall is located in the Chunhou Building of the China Hakka Museum. It covers an area of 550 square meters and has a construction area of 1100 square meters. It is a traditional Hakka residential building with a brick-wood structure, two entrances, two floors, and a ganlou style. It was built in 1946. The hall has an exhibition of "The Achievements of Meizhou Generals", which mainly introduces and displays the life stories, military exploits, and major contributions of the generals from Meizhou since the late Qing Dynasty.
Meizhou Famous People and Honest Officials Hall
The Meizhou Famous People and Honest Officials Hall is located on the second floor of the Dafu Building of the China Hakka Museum. It covers an area of 300 square meters and has an exhibition of "The Achievements of Meizhou Famous People and Honest Officials".
