Guangdong Visa-Free Policies

Guangdong Province, as a forefront of China's reform and opening-up, has always been a popular destination for foreign tourists. To further promote tourism and economic development, the Chinese government implemented the 144-hour (6 days) visa-free policy for foreign tourist groups entering Guangdong from Hong Kong and Macau. The 144-hour Visa-Free Policy for Foreigners Tourists from Hong Kong and Macao to Enter Guangdong

Any individual holding an ordinary passport from a country having diplomatic relations with China can enter 10 cities of Guangdong(Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhaoqing, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Huizhou, Zhuhai, Zhongshan and Jiangmen and Shantou) visa-free for no more than 144 hours after arriving in Hong Kong and Macao and travel in Hainan through a tourist group organized by a travel agency that is legally registered in either of the two SARs and consists of at least two person. They can enter and leave Guangdong from all open ports of the 10 cities, and the tourist group must enter and leave Guangdong as a whole. The duration of stay is 144 hours(6 days).

Qualification:

Foreign tourists must travel in groups organized by legally registered travel agencies in Hong Kong or Macau.

The tour group must consist of at least 2 people.

Travel within the Greater Bay Area mainland, including 9 cities and the Shantou region.

Holders of ordinary passports

Scope of Activities:

Limited to the following 9 cities (Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhaoqing, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Huizhou, Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Jiangmen) and Shantou.

Entry and exit ports are the designated open ports in these 10 cities.

Maximum Stay Duration: 144 hours (6 days).

Mode of Entry and Exit: Group entry and exit.

Important Notes:

  • Not applicable to individuals holding diplomatic or official passports.
  • For travelers heading to Shantou, entry and exit must be through Shantou, and the activity scope should not exceed Shantou city.

The 240-hour visa-free transit policy

Individuals from 54 eligible countries, including Russia, Brazil, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Canada, traveling from China to a third country(region), can enter visa-free through any of the 60 open ports in 24 provinces(autonomous regions and municipalities), and stay within the allowed areas for visa-free transit travelers for no more than 240 hours.

The Differences Between 144-hour Visa-Free Policy to Guangdong and 240-Hour Visa-Free Transit Policy to Guangdong

Although both policies are visa-free policies, there are differences in terms of nationalities, area and passport held by applicants.

The 144-hour visa-free policy for foreigners from Hong Kong and Macao to enter Guangdong

The 144-hour visa-free policy for foreigners from Hong Kong and Macao to enter Guangdong is eligible for tourists from any country, but they must join a legally registered travel agency in Hong Kong and Macao, and tourists eligible for the visa-free policy should enter and leave Guangdong as a whole.

The area should be within the 9 cities in mainland Greater Bay Area and Shantou City.

Among them, those who travel to Shantou can only enter and leave China from Shantou, and the area is only within Shantou City. This policy is not applicable to those who hold official passports, such as diplomats and officials. 
 

The 240-hour visa-free transit policy

The applicant must be a citizen of one of the following 54 countries that are eligible for the visa-free transit policy:

The applicant must hold a valid international travel document (with a validity of at least three months) and meet the requirements for entering a third country (region).

The applicant must hold interline passenger tickets or other documents with a specified date and seat to a third country(region) within 240 hours, complete the Arrival Card for Temporary Entry Foreigners, and cooperate with checks and inquiries by exit-entry border inspection authorities.
