Dear Mr. Dick,
Warmest greetings from Top China Travel!
Thanks a lot for your questions. Well noted that you are now in Hong Kong and would like to visit to Guilin and Lhasa.
Please be advised that Hong Kong is near to Guilin also in Sourthern China, but there isn't any train from Hong Kong to Guilin directly.
There are 2 ways. from Hong Kong to Guilin.
1) Train. You could take bullet train from Hong Kong to Guangzhou, then change an overnight train to Guilin. Or you could take the metro from Hong Kong to Shenzhen first, then take overnight train from Shenzhen to Guilin. But you need to book the train tickets from Guangzhou or Shenzhen to Guilin in advance with local agency. Train tickets can only be issued at most 20 days prior to the departure date. You need to offer you passport copy to book the train tickets with agency.
2) Direct flight. There are 2 flights in high season each day from Hong Kong to Guilin. It takes around 2 hours on the flight. It is really the most convenient way to get to Guilin from Hong Kong.
If you hope to travel from Guilin to Lhasa, I suggest you take flight because the train tickets to Lhasa are often not guaranteed. It is hard to buy a tickets to Lhasa and handling fee is really high, although there isn't any direct flight or train from Guilin to Lhasa. You could fly from Guilin to Chengdu or Chongqing first, from where transit a flight to Lhasa. There are more flights to Lhasa from Chengdu.
When you travel to Lhasa, at first you need to apply for a Tibet permit. It can not be applied by clients with embassy directly. Therefore, it is necessary for you to book the tour with travel agency. Besides, Tibet is not a city which allow individual tour. Every foreigners need to be arranged by local agency.
Hope the above is clear and helpful for more Guilin tour and Lhasa tour, please check below links,
