Rime Island (Wusong Island) is an island in Songhua River, located at Wulajie Manchu Town, Longtan District, Jilin City, Jilin Province. It is the best place to see and take photograph of rime. The best season to visit Rime Island is from the late Decmeber to the end of Feb in next year. The best time in a day to take photoes of rime is between 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

The trees on both sides of Songhua River are flourishing. The mist of the ice-free in the river encounters the cold air and frosts up in the trees, which is meteorologily called rime. It is one of the four wonders of nature in China. Rime is divided into two kinds. One is granular rime and the other is crystalline. The granular rime is a kind of the formation of a small ice and loose crystalline rime is structured like flake. Jilin rime is crystalline. 

Where is the Best Place to See Rime?

Hantun Village and Zengtong Village in Wulajie Manchu Town are the best places to appreciate the rime scenery.

What about the accommodation at Rime Island?
There are many hotels and hostels in the downtown of Jilin at different level, but you are suggested to stay at Rime Island (Wusong Island), where you could experience one night accommodation at local house, with paper windows, ondol, wall pasted by newspaper. Besides, there are many newly-built house constructed recent years, with separate washroom and solar water heaters. It is very convenient. Besides, tourists can also try the local farm-flavored food.

Tips for Travel to Rime Island

1. If you travel to Jilin for rime, it is better to pay attention to the weather forecasts before you go there. As we know, the formation of rime requests certain weather condition. Generally speaking, we cannot have chance to see rime scenery unless the temperature is below -21 °C.
2. The temperature of Jilin is low in winter. It can reach -20-30 °C, so please prepare for coldness. In addition to warm jacket, it's important to select a pair of half tall waist and anti-slip snow shoes.
3. Select the whole mechanical structure of the camera, because the electronic camera cannot work normally at low temperatures.

How to Get to Rime Island?

Tourists could go to Jilin Gome, in front of which there are coaches from Jilin to Wulajie Manchu Town. The bus departs every 20 minutes from 06:30 to 17:00 every day. The bus fare is CNY8 per person per way. It is 35km from Jilin to Wulajie Manchu Town and takes more than 1 hour by bus. Then take a taxi from Wulajie Manchu Town to Hantun and cost about CNY15-20 per way.
