I will be in Lijiang in July and plan to stay one night in Shaxi. How can I get there?

Thanks for your questions. At first, please be advised that Shaxi is located between Lijinag and Dali. Since it is a small town, at first you will need to travel from Lijiang to a county called Jianchuan, which is near to Shaxi.

There are 7 buses each day from Lijiang to Jianchuan. The earliest one is at 08:20 and the last one is at 17:00. The bus fare is around RMB20-25 per person. It is a kind of 18-20 seat mini-van. It takes around 3 hours from Lijiang to Jianchuan as the road is on the slop of mountain. It is a bit dangerous. Therefore, it drives a bit slow.

When you arrive at Jianchuan bus station, you need to take 7-9 seat mini-van from Jianchuan to Shaxi Ancient town. It cost around RMB10 per person. It needs around 45 minutes on the way.

Since it is a remote area in Yunnan province, if you travel alone and do not understand English, suggest you print the place name in Chinese. Then ask local people by showing it to them.

If you hope it more convenient, it is better to rent a private car and local English-speaking guide.
