I have been based in Shanghai for the past 2 weeks and have 1 more week left. Considering visiting Nanjing and Mt Huangshan for a couple of days. Is it feasible to do 1 night in Nanjing to see a few of the best sights and then travel to Mt Huangshan for 1 night?

I've got you are looking for a tour to Nanjing and Mount Huangshan. There is no direct flight or high speed train between Nanjing and Mount Huangshan. So if you want to visit these two places, you need to take Shanghai as the transmit city.

Generally the tour covered Nanjing and Mt Huangshan can be like this:
Day 1 Shanghai to Nanjing D train, Nanjing visiting
Day 2 Nanjing day tour, back to Shanghai
Day 3 Shanghai to Huangshan city
Day 4 Mount Huangshan, stay 1 night in Huangshan
Day 5 Huangshan sightseeing, back to Shanghai
