The best way get to see Shanghai city from airport is via metro system, line 2 to be exactly.
Line 2 starts from Shanghai Pudong airport from the east of the city and runs through downtown and goes to the west connected with the Shanghai Hongqiao railway station at the other end.
One can get off at either Nanjing Donglu (南京东路) or People Square (人民广场) station to reach Shanghai downtown, the journey will take around 50 minutes and 7 RMB per way per person.
The operation time of line 2 is 06:00 to 22:00.
